‘What about the Girl’ single launch and fundraiser.
ALL profits from the evening are being donated to Nardine Wimmins Refuge.
I am an indigenous singer/song-writer from Perth. The song I have written, ‘What about the Girl’, is about the cycles of Domestic Violence. What about the Girl - Audio. I have written this from both my own experience and from that of those close to me.
Due to the tender nature and meaning behind this song, I have incorporated other aspects into my single launch for it to involve Mental Health and Domestic Violence Awareness. There are guest speakers sharing their personal stories, Mental Healthcare professionals speaking about the affects of DV, followed by a Q&A panel and then a performance by myself, and my music producer and friend, Peter Renzullo.
The striking fleet was inspired by Perth radio host Heidi Anderson, who had a bad experience with a taxi driver last year. They will be available to men, too, but all have female drivers.
Anderson, 34, was approached by Swan Taxis after she shared her story on 92.9 and triggered a flurry of revelations from other Perth women.
She said with the recent rape and murder of Melbourne comedian Eurydice Dixon, it was the right time to launch the taxis.
“As much as we want to feel safe and empowered, the truth is stuff is happening,” Ms Anderson said.
